For the last few nights I’ve been sitting at my desk listening to Hans Zimmer trying to come up with something to write about. I’ve always wanted to have a blog where I can share my thoughts and experiences but it was something that I could never get a hold on. I’m easily distracted with Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Forums and everything in between. I know it’s the digital age and everything is online and easily accessible by our smart phones. When I was born, the world wide web was just coming into existence at the same time I was. 1990s was pretty big decade for technological advances, the internet, smaller computers, even some of the first smart phones. Times were changing, even in the 90s, we were already becoming disconnected from reality. But were we? I didn’t grow up without technology like my parents did…I grew with the technology and it’s become apart of my life.
People who didn’t have the opportunity to grow up with technology don’t understand how hard it is to just give it up. We spend a lot of our time on the internet, emailing, messaging friends & family, sharing the things we create, helping others, learning, doing research, etc…you name it. I wouldn’t call that being disconnected from reality, we are more connected to reality than we ever have been, it’s just a different kind of connection. But is technology a distraction? No I don’t think so. Because its only a distraction if you want it to be one. Lets face it, technology isn’t going anywhere. It’s here to stay and we must learn how to coexist with it. There are so many things in this world that would have never have existed if we weren’t distracted by technology.
